The ultimate showcase of design skills

In AIGA Design Battle contestants will put their skills to the test and compete with other designers at the live action design competition and have your work judged by a panel of DC designers right then and there. Winners will receive sponsored prizes for being successful in the battle. AIGA GMU is working with Erik Hansen to organize and facilitate the event. Check out the video below!

Who

AIGA GMU is creating this event for college students and anyone 18+. Feel free to invite friends and co-workers to this epic event.

What

Design Battle! 5 selected contestants will be paired up and face off in an Iron Chef style design battle where a secret 'theme' is given. 5 Judges will evaluate the designs and pick a winner from every round. From there winners will move on to the semi/finals for a chance to win the title of Design Battle Champion and win some awesome prizes!. It will be a party club like atmospehere for the competition. We will have projector screens setup so everyone can watch the designers at work while you grab some food or sip your drink. Food and drinks are available at 25% off normal prices.

Thursday April 19, 2012
7:30pm - 10pm*

*The event will officially end at 10:00pm, those who are under 21 must leave the building at this time.

Where

The event will be held at Fairfax Grille & Icons Event Hall, Located at 10418 Main Street Fairfax, VA 22030. This is about a 15 minute walk from the George Mason campus. Click here for a map of the location.

Jefferson Liu

AKQA

Jefferson Liu began his career as a designer specializing in print and retail design. Through the years, his focus shifted from traditional to digital. And his passion for crafting imaginative, interactive experiences lead him to AKQA in Washington DC.

As native of Washington DC, Jefferson stays actively involved in the art and design community. He mentors and speaks to students on a regular basis, while participating at local art shows in DC.

Jesse Thomas

JESS3

"Web's Hottest Designers" by Mashable, Thomas has been working toward owning his own agency since he was in his late teens. Obsessed while growing up with comic books, all things Disney and Pixar, MTV and video games, Thomas has built a company that produces the wonderment and magic he remains inspired by for vanguard clients that include Nike, NASA, Facebook, Google, Intel, Red Bull and Twitter.

Owen Shifflett

Viget

Owen joined Viget after 3.5 years at CDG Interactive, where he honed his skills as a Designer and Illustrator focused on brand development, online storytelling, and interactive design. Outside of work he enjoys being a new dad, furniture rejuvenator, noise-creator, and maker-upper of words.

Tomás Snoreck

As the founder and creative director at ripe, Tomas spent years crafting brands and working with clients near and far. He is a firm believer that more minds are better then one.
